Happy Holidays

2016 has been a consequential year. All year we fought to stop the TPP, and we won! For now, our country will not continue signing bad trade agreements that threaten American jobs. But we must be vigilant because we know corporate special interests will continue to push for polices that place profits over people.

The presidential election is behind us, but the incoming administration has many questions to answer about how it will address the growing inequality in our society. Will they pursue proven policies like increasing workers' rights to collective bargaining, or will they follow the tired playbook of attacking working families and siding with billionaire CEOs? It will be our job, as always, to be the voice for working families in Nashville and Middle Tennessee.

As you gather with family and friends over this holiday break, remind them that you are a union member. Tell them what being a union member has done for you and your family in terms of wages, benefits and security. Let them know about the work you do with other unions in the Central Labor Council because everyone deserves the rights and protections gained by having representation in the workplace.

Most of all take time to rest, rejuvenate and enjoy your well deserved time off with your loved ones.

Our first CLC action of 2017 will be the Nashville MLK Day March on January 16th at 10am at Jefferson Street Baptist Church. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year!!

“The curse of poverty has no justification in our age. It is socially as cruel and blind as the practice of cannibalism at the dawn of civilization, when men ate each other because they had not yet learned to take food from the soil or to consume the abundant animal life around them. The time has come for us to civilize ourselves by the total, direct and immediate abolition of poverty.”  - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
